![]() The front desk was most welcoming and helpful with area information. ![]() My fiancee and I stayed at The Inns at the Equinox for a relaxing spa get-away. ![]() Thank you, staff, for providing us with such a wonderful stay! I've told all my friends and family back in NY know about this place as it was the highlight of our week. This place deserves as many stars as a hotel can receive. I seriously wish I could visit this place more often! Next time I visit my family in NY I will absolutely stay here again as it was the best service I've ever received. While she was getting a massage I hung out in the hot tub and pool and had a great time. My wife got a massage and she said it was one of the best massages shes ever had. Anyway, the room was incredible, the views were great, the service was top notch, the spa was fantastic. Honestly, it wasn't an inconvenience at all, we didn't even complain or hint that we wanted another upgrade, they just did it. 20 minutes later Dan called to say they would need a little time to fix it so for the inconvenience they upgraded us again and moved all of our bags to our new room by the time we got back. We wanted to go to the outlets in the meantime so they went to fix the room while we were gone. We called Dan to ask if someone could come check it out and he sent someone immediately. We got to our room and the room was pretty cold. Again, very helpful and actually gave us a brief history lesson on the building which we really enjoyed and made us appreciate our stay even more. It was a slow evening and he upgraded our room immediately with permission from his manager. When we actually arrived the man at the front desk (Dan, I believe) was so kind. She was definitely going above and beyond what she had to do. ![]() She told us the great places to eat, the fun things to do, what the temperature would probably be, etc. The woman asked where I was coming from and I told her San Francisco and once she heard we were traveling 3,000 miles to get there she gave me every piece of info I could have ever needed for our stay. I called a month prior to our stay to confirm they were available the evening we wanted to stay. Beginning with the booking process the woman I spoke to was so nice. Anyway, I found a great deal on Living Social and I booked it. My wife had never been to Vermont but I had been telling her for years that it's my favorite state, mainly because of the people. ![]() One theory is that the black color of the card represents darkness and despair, while the spade shape is said to represent a shovel or grave. The ace of spades has been associated with death and ill luck for centuries. Whether due to its position in the deck or its dark color, the ace of spades has come to be seen as a bringer of bad luck. In addition, the black color of the ace of spades has also been linked to death and misfortune. As a result, the ace of spades has become associated with failure and bad luck. This effectively makes it a “joker” card that can be used to lose rather than win. However, in some games, the ace of spades is instead the lowest-ranking card. In many card games, the ace of spades is the highest-ranking card, making it the natural choice for a “trump” card that can beat all other cards. There are a number of theories about why this is, but the most likely explanation is that it is simply a matter of chance. The ace of spades is often considered to be a symbol of bad luck, death, and failure. Regardless of its origins, the ace of spades has come to be synonymous with bad luck, and it is often seen as an omen of impending doom. This theory suggests that the ace of spades was placed on the bodies of fallen soldiers as a way to warn their comrades that death was coming. While there are many theories about why the ace of spades specifically came to be associated with doom, one popular theory is that it was used as a warning to soldiers during wartime. In addition, the ace of spades is often considered to be the highest card in the deck, making it a natural symbol of power and authority. Part of this association likely comes from the fact that the spade is traditionally associated with black magic and witchcraft. The ace of spades is one of the most recognizable cards in a deck, and it has a long history of being associated with death and destruction. ![]() Many soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan have been known to carry a lucky ace of spades with them in hopes of avoiding disaster. Regardless of its origins, the superstition surrounding the ace of spades remains strong to this day. Others think it may have originated during the Napoleonic wars when British soldiers would often find the ace of spades in the packs of cards that were distributed to their French prisoners. The origins of this superstition are unclear, but some believe it dates back to medieval times when black was associated with death and evil. It is said that the ace of spades symbolizes disaster because it is the highest card in the deck and, thus, represents the peak of bad luck. Today, the ace of spades is still considered to be an unlucky card and is often used in horror movies and other media to represent death or misfortune. The card came to symbolize death and destruction, and its black color made it even more associated with bad luck. This association was further strengthened during the 18th century when soldiers in the British Army began using the ace of spades to mark the graves of their fallen comrades. As a result, it came to be seen as an unlucky card. At that time, the ace of spades was often depicted as a skull or other Death-related symbol. One theory is that it originated during the medieval era when playing cards were first introduced to Europe. The ace of spades has been associated with bad fortune for centuries. ![]() The other 4 pins on the sensor can be added later on if desired. These 4 pins allow us to power the sensor and communicate over I2C. For now, the only pins we care about are Vdd (supply voltage), Gnd (ground), SCL (serial clock line), and SDA (serial data line). Once the pins have been soldered, the next step is to create a cable to connect the sensor pins to either the Rev module or the Modern Robotics Device Interface Module. For those with less experience, the important things to remember are to make sure the pins are electrically connected to the PCB, and that solder is not shorting any of the pins to one another. ![]() For those who are experienced with soldering, this will be simple. So when they all go camping at the seaside some things might happen that are not quite normal. ![]() At first they grow slowly, but once they attain a height of 1 m or so, they rocket into growth, literally. New growth shoots break ground in spring once the average air temperature reaches 18-20 C, usually in mid to late April in southern Japan. The white roots too, are numerous and strong. These rhizomes are stolon-like, extending in all directions, thus making this a “running bamboo” species. On moister sites it is not uncommon to see them growing along the surface of the ground here and there. The culms originate from underground shoots that are born off a highly complex mat of segmented rhizomes that tend to grow fairly shallow in the substrate, typically not more than a half meter deep. Branching on the old culms becomes more intricate over time, hence more and more leaves are held by any given culm as they age, thus increasing their beauty and photosynthetic potential. The bright green, new leaves on the old culms grow quickly and are fully developed by June. In Japan they turn yellow all at once in May and are shed in time with new culm formation. The paper thin leaves are plentiful and last one growing season, each usually 4-10 cm in length and less than 2 cm in width. Culms fully mature within two seasons growth and can last up to 12 years. The uppermost nodes have one or more side branches that in turn bear the numerous elegant, small leaves. The culms are not tapered, but rather columnar in structure, only tapering near their apex. Like other bamboos, the nodes on the culm are very easy to see, forming a segmented stem that is hollow inside except at the node itself. Impressive stands of this giant bamboo are common place in the warmer parts of Japan. Moso growing along a mountain path in Fukuoka Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan. Being a “giant” or “timber” bamboo, culm diameter can be impressive, up to 20 cm, but as little as 8 cm in weaker culms. Phyllostachys edulis is a large growing bamboo with stems (called culms) routinely attaining heights of 15 meters or more, indeed reports of culms approaching even 30 meters exist in its most favored habitats. Regardless of these facts, moso remains the most important timber bamboo in the world, and has a central role in Japan’s traditional culture, ranging from construction material to food. If that weren’t enough, being in truth a very large grass, moso cannot be considered a tree either, despite its arboreal size. Moso bamboo ( Phyllostachys edulis), another Japanese icon, shares their fate. The odd thing is that neither of these species is native to Japan, but rather are imports from China.
